Still Winter...

It may still be winter but our thoughts are surging ahead. We're planning our garden! It's our first year for a large garden and it will be just as large a learning experience for all of us. I know Gman is excited to help. Key-B, at 15 months, will probably really enjoy digging in the dirt! Maybe Gman will actually eat the veggies since he'll be instrumental in growing them!

We have multiple varieties of peppers, squash and even lettuce!  We can't wait to get started!

"No seed is so small, or hidden so well,
That God cannot find it; and soon he will tell
His sun where to shine, and His rain where to go,
Making it grow!"

  1. did you start your seeds already? Share with us just exactly what you have and what you are doing. If you are going organic, have you checked into ladybugs for pests control?

  2. Yes, you're right Ditzy--er, Dizzy ;) I should be telling you all we're doing!

We're hoping to start our pepper plants in a greenhouse very soon, like tomorrow. Followed soon by tomatoes, eggplant, okra, melons and squash. When these grow and get a little hardy we'll put them in the ground.

We bought all heirloom seeds from Baker Seed Company in Mansfield, MO. www.rareseeds.com

We are so excited about the prospect of healthy veggies; who knew that veggies were sometimes not healthy?!

We are interested in any tips you have regarding natural pest control or fertilization you might have (goat poo would be nice)!

  3. So proud of you! Sounds like you are rip-roaring ready to roll! Where did you get a greenhouse? I have wanted one for years, but Farmer Old has bought into it yet. Of sourse his idea of a garden is putting the plants in the ground now you handle it, lol. Have friends in Miami with goats, you might be able to get "fertilizer" from them. I have cow goodies as you know. Buy plenty of marigold seed. If you plant a full circle around your garden, animals don't like to cross them to nibble. We have to lunch soon and talk one on one. Love ya!

  4. The greenhouse belongs to my parents-in-laws! They have a beautiful farm north of here. That's also where we're keeping the chicks! Until we get our own land we're living vicariously on this one!

You can make a greenhouse. Albeit small it will suit to start plants in until you can get them in the ground. Maybe I'll blog about that next! There's no end to my babblings!!

    Marigolds...that's a GREAT tip!

Please, let's do lunch! Miss ya!

  5. PS I'd love to meet your goat-owning friends someday, perhaps tour their farm? Would they be willing to offer an apprenticeship? I'll work for knowledge! ;)
